A Day in the Life

There’s really no such thing as a typical day at LSMSA; each student’s schedule is personalized, and campus life stays active well beyond the last class period. 

Academics 
Classes follow a traditional college-style schedule: 
  • Some courses meet on Monday/Wednesday/Friday; others meet on Tuesday/Thursday. 
  • Students work with an academic advisor to build a schedule that balances graduation requirements with electives they’re excited to explore. 
  • Because schedules are individualized, no two students have the same day-to-day routine. 
  • The earliest class begins at 8:30 a.m. Most classes end by 4:00 p.m., with a few meeting in the early evening. 

After Class 
Afternoons and evenings are full of opportunities and responsibilities including: 
  • Club meetings and student organizations 
  • Athletics practices and workouts 
  • Rehearsals and performances for arts courses 
  • Social events and community programs 
  • Homework, studying, and project work 
  • Free time off campus—picking up essentials, grabbing a snack, visiting a local coffee shop, or exploring downtown Natchitoches 

Campus Life & Curfew 
At curfew, students return to their residence hall rooms, and a staff member completes a room check. Some evenings also include hall meetings to share upcoming announcements, build community, or celebrate student birthdays. 

Weekends 
Most weekends, students may travel home or remain on campus. Because many club activities and social programs take place on weekends, students are encouraged to stay on campus at least some weekends to fully participate in the LSMSA community. 

Dining 
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the dining hall on weekdays. On weekends, the dining hall serves brunch and dinner. The dining hall staff are happy to work with students who have special dietary needs and several options are available: 
  • Hot bar 
  • Sandwich bar 
  • Salad bar 
  • Cereals and other quick options
  • Dessert bar 
Meals are all-you-can-eat, included for all students, and there is no additional fee for a meal plan.

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend, and assistance from the LSMSA Foundation ensures the program is available to all qualifying students regardless of family financial need.
