Serving the Community

At the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA), service is central to our mission. Our work service and community engagement programs provide students with hands-on opportunities to contribute to both the school and local communities.
Work Service Program: A Tradition Since 1983
Since 1983, all students have participated in the work service program, completing three supervised hours of campus work each week, to support the daily operations and needs of the LSMSA campus.

This work fosters a sense of responsibility, service, and community among our students. Work Service builds mentoring relationships with faculty and staff and is required for graduation.

Successful completion of Work Service assignments is a graduation requirement, ensuring every LSMSA graduate has contributed meaningfully to the school community.

Beyond campus, LSMSA offers a variety of community service programs, connecting students with local non-profit agencies and organizations.

Through volunteering, students expand their leadership skills, develop empathy, and make a tangible impact in the greater Natchitoches community.
Leadership Through Service

Leadership programs encourage students to become club officers, peer mentors, and ambassadors, further developing key skills and a commitment to service.

Through these initiatives, LSMSA students grow as leaders and citizens prepared to serve their communities.
