EXCEL Program

The EXCEL Program is a four-week summer bridge program designed to strengthen foundational academic skills and prepare students for success in LSMSA's rigorous curriculum. Established in 2003, EXCEL expands access to the LSMSA experience for talented students whose educational opportunities may have been limited by resource constraints in their home schools.

Each year, 15–20 students are selected through the admissions process based on their strong academic performance, motivation, and potential. While these students often have high GPAs, their standardized test scores may not fully reflect their abilities due to gaps in educational opportunities.

During the program, students participate in an intensive academic experience that includes courses in science, mathematics, English, history, visual and performing arts, and ACT preparation. Students attend classes throughout the day while living in the LSMSA residence hall, allowing them to experience both the academic and residential aspects of campus life.

At the conclusion of the program, students who successfully complete the academic and residential requirements of EXCEL are offered admission for the upcoming school year. EXCEL participants consistently demonstrate strong retention and graduation rates, and many achieve significant improvements in their ACT scores.

Students are selected for EXCEL by the Enrollment Selection Committee during the application review process.
